Airfix A05126A Spitfire Mk.Ia – 1:48 Scale Model

Airfix is a British model making company that have been producing injection-moulded plastic scale model kits since 1939. Airfix model kits are so popular in the UK that the brand has become synonymous with plastic model kits. Their range includes cars, naval vessels, aircraft and trains, and they are particularly well known for their range of military models, particularly WW2-era models.

The Supermarine Spitfire is perhaps one of the most recognisable vintage aircraft models. Designed in 1928 as a short-range interceptor aircraft, the unique, slim design gave it a superior top speed to other fighter craft, including the Hawker Hurricane and German Bf 109. The aircraft became synonymous with British war spirit due to its popularity with the public during the Second World War – many people would turn up to airfields to see Spitfires return from combat.

This Spitfire Mk.Ia model from Airfix is an intermediate difficulty 1:48 scale model which is geared towards adults. With 149 parts in total, this model is a wonderful challenge to complete and the finished model stands at 35x20x5cm. The plastic do require gluing and the model can be painted and detailed when complete (decals are included, but as with all Airfix models, paints and glue have to be bought seperately).
