Complex wooden model kits
Generally, the more complex kits can be more expensive – they usually come with more parts and greater detail, so they are mostly suitable for adults. Complex plastic model kits
Plastic kits are great for the more artistically-inclined as you’ll have to glue the pieces together and paint the final model. Many of these plastic kits are very complex and come with many more pieces (250+), so they’re definitely better for adults. But the finished models are great – particularly the detailed vehicle model kits.

Complex metal model kits
Unlike wood kits, the more complex metal kits come in at a lower cost – the metal pieces are laser-etched on sheets, so the kits come with less packaging. Part of the complexity is the size of the model and pieces, which tends to be smaller. So you’ll need a steady hand to assemble these models, which makes these metal model kits more suitable for adults, although they can still make great gifts for kids with a bit of assistance.
