Description
Corgi Toys have been creating metal die-cast toys in some shape or form since 1933. Their most popular range of cars and other vehicles includes a number of famous vehicles as featured in films and TV series, particularly British shows. Their models don’t require assembly and make great little gifts and keepsakes.
The iconic red London bus, The AEC Routemaster, was in production from 1954 until 1968 and was in use throughout the 1980s where the model started be withdrawn and replaced with more modern buses. They were introduced to replace old trolleybuses which had themselves been used to replace trams, so the Routemaster represents an evolutionary step in design from tram usage to more modern bus and coach transport. The open platform at the rear allowing people to hop on and off a moving bus is indicative of this legacy, a feature that ultimately led to the decision that the buses were too dangerous. The iconic red livery is synonymous with ‘brand’ London and although different operators were free to brand their buses as they pleased, in 1997 an 80% red requirement was put in place by London Transport.
This 1:64 diecast model from Corgi is a great little collector’s piece. It’s part of Corgi’s Vanguards series of models that celebrates classic vehicles going back decades and faithfully recreates intricate and faithful scale models. A great little gift for motoring enthusiasts and model collectors.
