Choosing the Right Father’s Day Model Kit Gift
Start with his interests
Think of a car he used to drive, an aircraft he talks about or a favourite film. A familiar subject gives the gift a reason beyond its size or price. The aviation gifts guide offers more aircraft choices. See gifts for car enthusiasts if a favourite make or car is your starting point.
Check what he already owns
If Dad collects a particular subject, check the exact version and scale before buying. A different vehicle, variant or building format can fill a gap. Check display space as well as whether he already has the kit.
Match the project to his experience
A First Build kit suits someone new to the hobby. Choose a more involved complex model kit when Dad enjoys careful fitting, finishing and a project to return to over several sessions.
Check the supplies and power
Look at the contents of the exact pack. Some kits include basic paints and glue, while no-glue metal kits can still need modelling tools. For moving or illuminated models, check any batteries, charging cable or other power requirements.
Decide whether you’ll build it together
A twin kit lets you each build a model, while a larger set can provide steps or sections to share. Check the recommended age if a child will help. The family gifts guide has more shared projects.

Father’s Day Model Kit Gift FAQs
What is a good Father’s Day model kit for a dad who has never built one?
Choose a subject he likes and a First Build rating. The Revell James Bond DB5 07746 uses pre-coloured click-together parts, so it is an approachable option for a Bond or classic-car fan without a separate painting stage.
How do I choose a gift for a dad who already has lots of model kits?
Find out which subjects, scales and versions he owns. A model that fills a gap, a vehicle with a personal connection or a different building material can give him a fresh project. Check his available display space before choosing something larger. Our guide to gifts for model collectors has more on checking exact editions and display fit.
What can I give a dad who likes models that move?
Choose a working model with a mechanism he will enjoy assembling and operating. The ROKR locomotive offers a wooden mechanical build, while the G8908 V8 engine uses a motor to demonstrate moving parts. Check each kit’s power and assembly requirements. Browse more engineering gifts for someone who likes building and operating mechanisms.
Can a child build a Father’s Day model kit with Dad?
Choose a kit whose age guidance and assembly requirements suit the child. The Apache and BAe Hawk Quickbuild twin kit provides two separate models for builders aged 6+. Other projects can be shared by taking turns or working on separate sections, with adult help where needed.
Do I need to buy tools, paint or glue with the gift?
Check the exact pack rather than relying on the brand or the words starter kit. Some sets include basic finishing materials, and others need none. No-glue metal builds may still need tools, and illuminated models may require batteries or a cable supplied separately.
